Cody Garbrandt opened up the milestone UFC 300 event this past Saturday when he took on former flyweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo.
Cody Garbrant was finally realising some momentum heading into his fight against Deiveson Figueiredo – a fight four years in the making as they were previously booked in 2020 – after winning his last two fights.
Deiveson Figueiredo on the other hand was competing in just his second bantamweight, fight after the Brazilian made the move up a division in December last year beating Rob Font.
Deiveson Figueiredo submits Cody Garbrandt in round two
Unfortunately for ‘No Love’ he wasn’t able to score his third win in a row – something he hasn’t been able to do since 2016 – as he was submitted in the second round by ‘Deus Da Guerra’.
The first round was a close one between the two incredibly fast strikers, and Garbrandt did some good work on the feet, investing in the calf kick early on.
On all three judges’ scorecards, the former bantamweight champion did enough to take round one. Throughout the first five minutes, Figueiredo attempted three takedowns but was unable to land any of them.
In round two though, the Brazilian managed to finally get the fight to the ground, where he controlled for 3:39, and subsequently wrapped up a rear-naked choke.

Cody Garbrandt reveals he experienced vertigo mid-fight
For the first time since the fight on Saturday night, the 32-year-old has come out and spoken about his performance. ‘No Love’ revealed that he started to experience vertigo – something he has experienced since 2012 – and once the fight was taken to the ground, he ‘couldn’t control the spinning’.

“I felt great in my fight until I started to experience vertigo, I couldn’t control the spinning once it was to the ground. Hats off to Deiveson and his camp.” Garbrandt revealed on X.
Unfortunately for Garbrandt, the submission loss wasn’t where his night ended. He mentioned how he was ‘throwing up till 4am’ in the hospital, following the fight.
“I ended up going to the hospital where I was still experiencing vertigo, throwing up until 4am. Thank you Heather and Olivia for monitoring me after the fight.
“I’ll get this corrected, I’ve dealt with vertigo since 2012. Thank you to the fans that came out to support it wasn’t my night but I love doing what I do, I’ll be back in there before the year is up.” Garbrandt added.
