Former UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski’s immediate reaction to the viral knockout at UFC 300 is every single MMA fan in a nutshell.
How many millions of drinks were spilled, how many bums left seats, and how many households were woken up in the middle of the night by screaming UFC fans? The end of the BMF title fight between Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje will go down as one of, if not the most memorable moment that we’ve ever witnessed in the octagon.

Max Holloway raises the roof with buzzer-beating beat-down at UFC 300
Max Holloway has written himself into the record books once again, delivering one of the greatest finishes in the history of the sport last night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
‘Blessed’ might have dominated almost every single moment of the contest, aside from being dropped for the first time in his professional career in the fourth round, but even at 4-0; he refused to go to the judges’ scorecards.
Not only did Holloway decide to point to the ground to brawl out the final 10 seconds of the fight with Justin Gaethje, he knocked ‘The Highlight’ out cold with one singular second left on the clock.
Alexander Volkanovski was every UFC fan watching Holloway vs Gaethje
Former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski had the camera set up and ready to go for UFC 300 as he filmed his reactions to the outstanding PPV, with much of his attention focused on the BMF title fight.
Just like almost every single MMA fan watching Max Holloway vs Justin Gaethje unfold from the comfort of our couches, Volkanovski lost his mind when his former foe landed the single greatest finish in UFC history:
‘The Great’ quickly followed up the reaction video, which is already going viral around the world via social media, on his official YouTube channel with a short breakdown of the overall UFC 300 card:
“The biggest moment on the card was Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje – I told you not to count Max Holloway out, the way people were talking about as if it was like these guys are on whole different levels even the size difference, I didn’t think that was the case at all.”
“Obviously, I didn’t expect him to get a knockout so that was a surprise to me,” admitted the fan-favorite Australian, before adding that the decision from Holloway to throw down with Gaethje in the final exchanges is a history-making move:
“I expected him to be very competitive or even win – he was up four rounds to one going into what, one second to go? [But] when he was like 10-15 seconds out, he’s like ‘let’s do it’ – [that’s an] iconic Max Holloway moment, with Justin Gaethje when he’s already four rounds up; you talk about BMF so kudos for that.”
“That was pretty incredible…I was expecting him to win but not like that, everyone’s absolutely blown away.”
Max Holloway made his feelings crystal clear on what’s next
With that legendary finish at UFC 300, Max Holloway has put himself in a prime position to get a title shot against Ilia Topuria.
Speaking to Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview, Holloway took the opportunity to call his shot for the featherweight title against Topuria, who looked decidedly nervous as the camera panned to him in the immediate aftermath of the last-second knockout:
“All I’ve got to say is that I’m him, I’m him guys! There’s an El Matador [and] he’s running away from a bull at 145lbs – tell him to sign the contract! Spain, Hawaii, wherever!”
With Holloway also now entering the lightweight title picture, ‘Blessed’ continued rocking the microphone: “Even Islam [Makhachev], Islam is famous for defending against 45ers right? I’m him, I’m right here!”
UFC 300 was the 12th KO/TKO win of Max Holloway’s career and earned him a whopping $600,000 in post-fight bonuses.
