‘Embarrassing’… Angry Marvin Vettori slams Brendan Allen for UFC Vegas 90 victory

‘Angry’ Marvin Vettori has returned as he slams Brendan Allen for an “embarrassing” performance against Chris Curtis at UFC Vegas 90.

The main event was a back-and-forth war that has been dubbed a potential ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate by fellow UFC fighters, but there was one middleweight who was decidedly unimpressed by both Brendan Allen’s performance and post-fight interview.

Brendan Allen earns split decision win at UFC Vegas 90

After original opponent Marvin Vettori was forced to withdraw from the bout with a ‘freak’ injury, Chris Curtis stepped up on short notice to offer Brendan Allen a rematch of their 2021 clash – which ended with ‘The Action Man’ winning by way of second-round knockout.

In the main event of last night’s UFC Vegas 90 card, Allen earned his revenge in a razor-close split decision victory over Curtis, with the judges’ scorecards reading 48-47, 49-46, and 47-48.

At the post-fight interview, Allen called out champion Dricus du Plessis and failing that, Sean Strickland: “Yo where’s that title shot? What’s up Dricus you know I’m going to whoop that a**… 100% if I can’t get Dricus then Sean my man, let’s run it back – I got Sean then Chris back-to-back, now let’s get Chris then Sean.”

Marvin Vettori slams Allen for his performance and call out

Unsurprisingly, former UFC middleweight title challenger Marvin Vettori was decidedly unimpressed by both Brendan Allen’s performance against a short-notice replacement, as well as his post-fight call out of Dricus du Plessis.

“Allen wtf u calling for the title man you look like dog s***, got rocked every single round and prayed you were getting the takedown just to hang in there,” shared Vettori, who also said of the performance:

“That s*** was embarrassing.”

“I guess that angry Vettori is back mf******,” wrote the 30-year-old contender, noting that he didn’t agree with the judges’ scorecards given how little damage was inflicted on Curtis:

“I think curt did great and to be honest won, there was never any damage caused on the ground…He got surprised with the takedown and got stalled out for a bit but couple times he was close to end the fight.”

‘All In’ responds to Vettori’s comments at post-fight interview

When asked about Vettori’s comments at the post-fight press conference, Allen said that there was a difference between talking online, or in person, and actually stepping up to fight under the unified rules:

“The only time he wants to do something is when it’s in front of people,” said Allen, who improved to 24-5 with the victory at UFC Vegas 90: “I don’t give a f*** if you see me, stand behind what you say, if you’re a man then stand behind what you say, that’s my problem.”

“At the end of the day, that’s the only thing left I’ve got to say to Marvin – we’re not going to fight unless you want to fight me here or at my gym, you had your chance…I showed up, I saved the card with Chris…Say what you want, talk what you want, but when you see me, do something if you’re really about it.”

Responding to Allen, Vettori posted on social media: “Ok yes perfect you literally went and cried to our manager and cried all week to all the staff and I kneeew you were gonna talk some s*** like that after…All good.”

With Allen’s decision win over Curtis, it’s unlikely that ‘All In’ will be given a title shot over the likes of Israel Adesanya, Sean Strickland, or the winner of Whittaker vs Chimaev – with fans expecting that the American will be matched up against Vettori once again, after ‘The Italian Dream’ recovers from injury.
