‘Freak accident’… Marvin Vettori addresses withdrawal from Brendan Allen main event

Marvin Vettori is out of his UFC Fight Night main event against Brendan Allen, citing a “freak accident” injury as he addresses the withdrawal on social media.

Following months of heated verbal exchanges, Vettori and Allen were set to throw down on April 6 at the UFC Apex before Italian confirmed through his social media channels that the fight has now been canceled due to injury.

Whilst the former world title challenger didn’t reveal what the injury or ‘freak accident’ was, Vettori vowed to come back “stronger than ever” as he promised to “run it back” with Allen after he’s fully recovered.

Marvin Vettori addresses withdrawal from Allen main event

With the UFC middleweight division stalling as fans await Dricus du Plessis’ next opponent, Marvin Vettori and Brendan Allen have sadly lost their opportunity to earn a statement win; for now.

In a video posted to his Instagram page, #5 ranked middleweight Marvin Vettori has confirmed that he’s out of the UFC Fight Night main event against #6 ranked Brendan Allen on April 6:

“I wanted to tell you first-hand because there’s a lot of s*** on the internet, but I’m not going to fight on April 6, I got hurt – it was kind of a freak accident, and I can’t go into a fight hurt.”

Whilst the 30-year-old contender was apologetic to his fanbase, the most disappointed man in the room was obviously Vettori himself: “Trust me, I’m the first one that wanted this fight – I wanted to put my hands on this guy.”

“You know at the same time s*** happens and we got to roll with it, nothing we can do but focus on recovering…I’ll be back stronger than ever and we’ll run it back.”

Vettori, without skipping a beat, then went on to launch yet another verbal tirade against Allen, even threatening the American grappler “I’m going to see you either in the cage or not, I’ll see you around.”

“I’m fed up with all your b******, you sit down in front of a computer and become Hulk, but when you see me, you’re like a quiet little girl all smiles and trying to be nice…You funny-looking thing man, look like you came out of a Griffin episode.”

We are waiting to hear when or where the UFC will re-book the match, which depending on the severity of Vettori’s injury could be pushed back to the summer schedule. Although the Italian might need some additional convincing:

“I’m your big shot, you’re gonna beg me for another shot. I don’t give a f*** about fighting you, I’m making you a favor, I’ll smash your face just because you look funny to me…I’ll see you soon.”

The co-main event of the April 6 card was set to be a featherweight clash between Norma Dumont and Germaine de Randamie; it is currently unclear whether this will be bumped up to the main event.
