Benoit Saint-Denis’ wife provides injury update after Poirier KO at UFC 299

After his KO loss at UFC 299, Benoit Saint-Denis is thankfully on the road to recovery with his wife sharing that his broken nose doesn’t require surgery.

Saint-Denis was unfortunate enough to be on the end of one of the most vicious hooks that Dustin Poirier had ever thrown at UFC 299, with the full force of ‘The Diamond’ sending both Saint-Denis to the canvas and the Miami crowd into meltdown.

Now, several days after his co-main event slot, Benoit Saint-Denis’ wife Laura has confirmed that the Frenchman won’t need surgery to fix his broken nose and that he’s continuing a course of antibiotics.

After an impressive opening round from the Frenchman, Dustin Poirier was able to earn a statement KO win over Saint-Denis with a hook that not many lightweights would have been able to withstand.

In the aftermath of UFC 299, fans expressed concern for the mental and physical health of the former special forces operator with partner Laura, who herself was the first French female officer to complete SWAT training, recently sharing an update on social media:

“On the health side, the broken nose does not require surgery, 2 stitches on an arch, blood pressure at 10 on the day. He rehydrated little by little, he continues to take antibiotics.”

“We sleep more than 12 hours a night, which hasn’t happened in 8 months,” she added, demonstrating the level of strain put on both fighters and their families during fight camps.

“He is disappointed in himself. Defeat leaves him with a bitter taste that he will no longer want to taste. Believe me. Thank you all for your energy in supporting our champion in good times and bad.”

Previously, Saint-Denis’ team admitted that he had been taking a course of antibiotics to treat a staph infection during fight week, which the lightweight contender said left him fatigued on fight night.

Sharing his own reaction to the back-and-forth battle against ‘The Diamond’, Benoit also posted on social media: “I fought completely dehydrated, frustration is huge but it’s hard to judge when to cancel such an opportunity.”

Acknowledging the messages being sent God of War’s way, the Frenchman added: “God tests us in so many ways, I’m blessed to be well surrounded and have tremendous support.”

It also appears that Saint-Denis wants to run it back against Poirier at some point in the future, teasing that “it’s up to us to show you the BSD of the last fights when I return” and vowing to “earn my revenge against this Louisiana guy.”
