Alexa Grasso reveals ‘best scenario’ ahead of trilogy fight with flyweight rival

Alexa Grasso has revealed what would be her ‘best scenario’ when she and Valentina Shevchenko settle their trilogy, following the culmination of The Ultimate Fighter, Season 32.

In their first fight back at UFC 285, Alexa Grasso pulled off a historic upset, submitting Valentina Shevchenko in the fourth round. On all three scorecards, the Mexican had lost two of the first three rounds, and she was likely down at the beginning of round four.

The submission loss was the first that Shevchenko had suffered throughout her 27-fight career.

Mexcian Independence Day rolled around, and the two 125lbers faced off again in the main event of Noche UFC. After a close five rounds, the scorecards came in with the fight being scored a split draw.

With Grasso retaining the title but the trilogy being unsettled, the UFC announced that the two would coach in Season 32 of The Ultimate Fighter, to finally settle their rivalry.

Although it has not been confirmed where and when the fight will take place, it has been rumored that it will happen on Mexican Independence Day again.

The promotion recently announced that Mexican Independence Day will be given its own PPV card, UFC 306, with the event scheduled to take place at the Las Vegas Sphere.

It will mark the first sporting event to take place at the magnificent venue, and the event will likely be built as a spectacle. Valentina Shevchenko, however, believes it would be ‘unfair’ for the fight to take place on Mexican Independence Day again, stating at a TUF 32 media day, that it should be her choice where they fight next.

The 30-year-old champion, though, feels as though it would be the ‘best scenario’ for her to defend the title at The Sphere on Mexican Independence Day. As well as that, she stated that it’s her ‘goal’ to get a finish, to settle the trilogy.

Speaking at the TUF 32 media day, Grasso said: “Every fight is kind of similar, as you guys know I love striking, in the first fight I was able to touch her, in the second fight I scored a knockdown, so my goal in the third fight is of course to finish the fight.

“I hope this is true (UFC 306 rumors), I would love to fight there (The Sphere), it would be awesome and you know, with the show and the (possible) finish in the Sphere, it would be the best scenario.”
