Jon Jones is set to headline UFC 295 in his first heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic.

Colby Covington’s Octagon return against Leon Edwards was reportedly penciled in for the same November card. It is the company’s annual event at Madison Square Garden, which also coincides with the 30th anniversary celebration.

But according to “Chaos,” Jon Jones got him booted from the card.

Colby Covington says Jon Jones didn’t want him part of the card

In a recent interview with Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, Colby Covington claimed he was removed from UFC 295, thanks to Jon Jones.

“Is Jon Jones going to be willing to share a card with his former college roommate who knows all his dirty secrets, all the dirty skeletons in his closet?” Covington said (quotes by MMA Junkie).

“I bet that he’s going over to the UFC right now and he’s telling them, ‘Yo, I’m not sharing a card with Colby. I will refuse to fight here.’

“So, the only way I see that fight happening is, we know Jon’s unpredictable, we know he might go sniff some white girls, kind of like Joe Biden.

“He’s not to be relied on. He might get pulled off the card, and we might have to save the day and be the main event.”

To prove his point, Covington claimed to have insider information. And he’s more than willing to be the UFC’s ‘backup plan.’

“A little birdie told me, Michael, that he went backstage with the suits and the big dogs of the UFC and said, hey, he refuses to share a card with me. So, they’re gonna give him what he wants.

“They don’t want to ruin their New York show, and they’re still hoping he shows up. But they need a backup plan. He’s not reliable. I’m the ultimate company man.”

Colby Covington unloads dirt on Jon Jones

Covington and Jones were roommates during their college years at Iowa Central Community College. As Colby told Bisping, he was close with “Bones” until the latter began doing PEDs.

“It all went sour when he started doing steroids to bulk up,” Covington said og Jones. “So, his mood swings and all the stuff he was putting in his body was affecting his emotions, and he had mood swings.

“He would literally just be bipolar. One day he would be completely fine and we would be best friends; the next day he would just be like, ‘Oh, Colby! Your shoes are messed up wrong. Why didn’t you put them perfectly in the corner?’

“I’m like, ‘Bro, it’s just my shoes. What’s the big deal? We’ve been tighter than that and closer than that for long enough.’”

The two fighters have been trading shots for years now, and Jones’ list of run-ins with the law only served as ammo for Colby Covington’s trash talk.

“Look at the piece of shit that he is. His last felony, he’s beating up his wife, left his wife a bloody mess in that hotel and went to jail. This guy is a dirtbag.

“Hitting a Bentley with two hookers in the back. Hitting a pregnant lady at a stop sign, then fleeing the scene with drugs. It’s just countless thing after thing, failing steroid tests.

“The truth is the truth,” Covington continued. “I don’t have any skeletons in my closet, and I want the world to see it. I don’t want him being painted in a good light because he’s not a God-fearing man. He’s an evil spirit.”

Jon Jones’ opinion on Colby Covington

For his part, Jones likewise doesn’t think too highly of Covington. As far as he’s concerned, the former interim welterweight champion is nothing but a fabricator of stories.

“Man, he is such an interesting character,” Jones said during a 2018 interview. “One thing I’ll say about him [is] that I wish people realized how severe of a liar he is. He is an extraordinary liar.

“He reminds me a lot of Chael Sonnen, how he could just say one thing and tell the fans a bold-faced lie.”

Covington hasn’t fought since March 2022 at UFC 272, when he took on another former roommate and friend Jorge Masvidal in a grudge match. He won via unanimous decision and a $50K bonus for Fight of the Night.
