Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal want to run UFC bout back, does Dana White?

Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren are talking about a rematch of their infamous UFC 239 bout from 2019.

When Jorge Masvidal KO’d Ben Askren in five seconds (the all-time record for quickest UFC finish) at UFC 239 in 2019, most people thought that was that. But now both Masvidal and Askren are talking smack about a rematch.

Boxing or MMA? That’s where ideas diverge

This latest back-and-forth started with Jorge Masvidal talking to TMZ and saying a rematch with Ben Askren was of interest (transcription via MMA Junkie).

“I heard Ben Askren said he’d come out of retirement to fight me. He wanted MMA but for his sake, I’d do boxing so I can’t knee him in the face. It’s illegal, duh. Come on, man (laughs). Hey, Ben, I’ll beat your ass with both hands behind my back. Ben’s so bad at boxing.

“He’s the one that said it. Look, Ben, I’ll only give you the rematch in boxing, motherf*cker. People will tune in because I can’t knee him in the face, right? Maybe Ben can ‘get his way now.’ Hey, Ben, kiss my ass. You coming out of retirement, I’ll send you right back into it, motherf*cker. This guy, bro. They shouldn’t have shown me that comment, you corny motherf*cker.”

‘Balls in your court mr BMF’ says Ben Askren

Or maybe it started with Ben Askren taking to Twitter to post a DM he sent to Dana White.

“I know I’m retired but I sure would love to beat up Jorge. Let me know if he is in.”

Askren added a message to Masvidal: “Balls in your court mr BMF.”

Although he was quick to add that he is only looking for an MMA bout, not a boxing match.

“No, I’m not gonna box Jorge. If Jorge was really a BMF he will accept a rematch in MMA and not be a coward.”

‘This guy still alive?’ asks Jorge Masvidal

For his part, Masvidal had a vicious follow-up diss on Instagram.

Askren retired from MMA after he followed his loss to Masvidal with a loss to Demian Maia. He returned to combat sports for a boxing match against Jake Paul in 2021. Askren got KO’d inside of 3 minutes for that one.
