Who had Alex Cowboy Oliveira vs. Alexander Shlemenko fighting on their 2023 bingo card? Well, that’s what’s happening on today at SFC 8 (that’s Shlemenko Fighting Championships, by the way).
Cowboy has said, sanctions be damned, and headed over to Omsk for a pay cheque in hostile territory. The popular former UFC fighter has been busy since being released from the promotion in 2022, off a loss to Kevin Holland.
He’s lost to Damian Maia in grappling, won some fights in Brazil and Serbia. He lost to Kiefer Crosbie (who won in Kingpyn Boxing last weekend) and beat fellow UFC vet Stefan Sekulic with a judo throw KO in Titan FC a few months ago.
Shlemenko is most known for his stints in Bellator, where he held the middleweight title and defended it on three occasions. He is also a former M-1 middleweight champion.
Since leaving Bellator he has fought exclusively in Russia. He headlined Shlemenko FC 5 last September where he fought to a split draw with Cleber Souza.
You can see how he’s been training for his fight with Cowboy below.
