Undefeated UFC rising star Ian Machado Garry could be the next big thing from Ireland, and he seems to have taken a page from his more famous countryman in Conor McGregor.

Garry is looking to break into the top 10 on his next bout against Geoff Neal, and he just made the build up to UFC 292 a lot more personal. The 12-0 welterweight decided to print out shirts with Neal’s mugshot on it, along with a his nickname “The Future” captioned underneath.

Garry proudly wore the shirt to UFC events for this past weekend’s International Fight Week, and also started selling them on his website.

UFC fight promotion gets ugly

On the video of him making the t-shirt, Ian Garry was laughing and saying “he’s going to hate us.”

He was right.

Geoff Neal, who is currently the 8th ranked welterweight, was arrested back in 2021 and charged for DWI and weapons offenses. It looks like Neal and his family really didn’t appreciate that incident being used not only to market a fight, but to make money off of it as well.

Neal’s father even got involved, posting to facebook in response, slamming Garry and saying it’s “not safe to poke bears.”

“Turns out Ian Garry is straight trash. That’s Geoff’s mug shot on his shirt. Weirdo thought it would be cute to wear this shirt to UFC 290,” Neal’s father wrote. “He’s so far back from the necessary fighters that no one gave a damn. I hope like hell he stays healthy so he makes to the 19th. It’s been a minute since somebody spoke out of place…ask Bilal and Mike Perry how that worked for them.”

Neal himself has kept quiet about the entire incident publicly, but privately, it looks like he really isn’t happy about it.

The facebook post also showed a screenshot of an SMS conversation with Neal. After being showed a photo of Garry wearing the shirt with his mugshot, the fighter had a short response.

“He’s dead.”

Who have Ian Garry and Geoff Neal beaten?

Garry, the much hyped 25-year-old prospect, is currently 12-0, with his TKO against Daniel Rodriguez last May getting him to a perfect 5-0 in the UFC. Garry is currently ranked #13, and will get a step up to face the first top 10 opponent in his career.

Neal, on the other hand, is 32-years-old and 15-5 in his career (7-3 in the UFC). He has more experience fighting high caliber opposition, but is looking to bounce back after a loss to another top prospect in Shavkat Rakhmonov. Prior to that, Neal had two big wins over Vicente Luque and Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Neal has also lost to Neil Magny and Stephen Thompson, while also picking up wins over Belal Muhammad, Mike Perry, and Niko Price.
