The promotion is back on the road this week for a UFC fight card that will provide some mid-day action for viewers. The promotion will return to the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday for a card that will be broadcast on U.S. TV network ABC.
The upcoming UFC Fight Night will be headlined by ranked featherweights Ilia Topuria and Josh Emmett. They’ll be the final fighters to make the walk on a UFC fight card that starts at the bright and early time of 11:30 a.m. ET and will wrap up in the early evening.
Topuria attempts to remain flawless
Topuria has been one of the top names to watch at featherweight in recent years. The undefeated talent has picked up five victories since joining the promotion back in 2020. And despite the increasing level of challenge, he has continued to put on strong performances.
He most notably handed Bryce Mitchell his first loss at UFC 282 late last year, submitting him in the second round with an arm triangle choke. And before then, he used his striking skills to put away Jai Herbert, Ryan Hall, and Damon Jackson.
Topuria still has some ground to cover before getting a title shot at 145 pounds. Ranked ninth in the division, he could move up if successful against fifth-ranked Emmett this weekend.
Emmett aims for bounce-back performance
On the other side of things, Saturday is a chance for Emmett to get back on track. Emmett lost an interim title fight against Yair Rodriguez earlier this year, getting finished in the second round of their bout. He had the momentum of five straight wins before then, including a five-round main event victory over Calvin Kattar.
Emmett would certainly make a statement with a win this weekend, becoming the first person to beat Topuria – a name that is ranked lower than him but hyped up by many.
A total of 14 UFC fights are currently expected to take place as part of this weekend’s UFC Fight Night card, meaning the action from Jacksonville will be a quick pace. The co-main event of the evening sees Amanda Ribas get paired against Maycee Barber at flyweight.
Ribas is coming off her first win since moving up from strawweight, beating Viviane Araujo earlier this year. She’s taking on Barber, who has strung together a solid four straight wins in recent appearances.
