The UFC Fight Night main event
This week’s UFC fight card features a top-ranked middleweight battle between former title contenders Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier. Both men have seen the top of the mountain and got pushed back hard for their efforts, but are still in spitting distance of another chance at gold if they can keep a win streak going.
Marvin Vettori (19-6-1) enters the contest fresh off a unanimous decision win over Roman Dolidze, back in March at UFC 286. That victory provided a much needed bounce back from a one-sided loss to Robert Whittaker in September of last year. The ‘Italian Dream’ fought Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title back in June of 2021, in a rematch of their 2018 bout, losing 50-45 on all three judges scorecards.
Much like Vettori, Jared Cannonier (16-6) rebounded from his loss to Israel Adesanya in July of last year with a tough decision victory. The ‘Killa Gorilla’ picked up a somewhat controversial split decision over Sean Strickland back in December in a Fight Night main event. The MMA Lab talent didn’t have much more success than his Italian counterpart in his own title bid, picking up just one round on two judges scorecards against Adesanya at UFC 276.
