PFL 4 is underway tonight from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia and the preliminary portion of the mma card just closed out with former UFC bantamweight title challenger, Marlon Moraes, getting brutally knocked out in the very first round by an undefeated Gabriel Alves Braga.

The leg kicks were effective right away for Braga, causing mobility issues for Moraes. Somehow, ‘Magic’ Marlon snuck in a head kick to get the attention of his adversary. Then, a piston of a right hand from Braga came right down the pipe to send Moraes crashing to the canvas. A followup barrage of unanswered ground and pound put Marlon out, granting Gabriel the biggest win of his young career.

This is the seventh straight time that Moraes has been horrifically finished, so it was a huge relief to see the former WSOF champion/eleven-fight UFC veteran take off his gloves and call it a career at 23-13-1. Honestly, a lot of fans truly believe that he was gifted his last win, a split decision to JosΓ© Aldo, and if that were the case then he would be exiting the sport on a nine-fight losing streak. This was hard to watch.

Marlon fought way past his expiration date, and you have to attribute that to his chin. He’s still athletic enough to hang with anyone, and has some of the sharpest striking skills around, however the beard just isn’t there. Moraes was a super-fun action fighter that was responsible for some of the craziest finishes ever, for better or worse. Hats off to him, and I really hope Magic Marlon Moraes rides off into the sunset, because my tiny heart will literally shatter into a million tiny pieces if I see him on a bare knuckle boxing docket.
