On Saturday, UFC Fight Night: Kara-France vs. Albazi might as well unofficially be flyweight night. For the first time since February, UFC’s 125-pound division will be the focus of the night, as flyweight talents Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi will square off in a five-round main event from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And they aren’t the only flyweights set to compete. Along with them, two other 125-pound bouts will be on the main card of what’s expected to be a 13-bout show in total.
But before any of that can happen, all fighters must make weight for their bouts. They’ll do so today, and we’ll be watching along with the results to see if everything goes as planned.
Can Albazi keep the streak going?
Amir Albazi will look to remain undefeated in his UFC run when he competes this weekend. The 29-year-old has picked up four wins since joining the promotion in 2020, with three of those victories coming via finish.
Albazi will get a big opportunity this weekend, working up to five rounds against one of the higher-ranked names in the division. “The Prince” is currently seventh in the division, while Kara-France is significantly higher in third place. A win on Saturday for either could be crucial for inching towards a shot against current divisional champ Brandon Moreno.
While Albazi is looking to avoid losing in the UFC, his opponent will be trying to return to the win column after taking a high-profile defeat. Kara-France is coming off an unsuccessful interim title shot against Moreno from last year. He put together a trio of wins at flyweight before then. Like Albazi, he will also be appearing in the main event spotlight for the first time in his UFC career.
Veterans to get spotlight at UFC on ESPN 46
A variety of experienced MMA talents are expected to appear on Saturday’s main card. In the co-main event on Saturday, 26-fight UFC vet Alex Caceres will meet Daniel Pineda at featherweight.
Both Jim Miller and Andrei Arlovski will be furthering their historic UFC runs when they appear this weekend. Miller will be appearing for the 42nd time, which is the most appearances from any UFC fighter ever. And Arlovski will be making his 40th appearance, which further cements his second-place spot on that same list.
Miller’s record appearance won’t be against his originally scheduled opponent. While he was first set to face Jared Gordon, plans changed yesterday and he’s now expected to meet promotional newcomer Jesse Butler, who enters the promotion on a five-fight winning streak from the regional scene.
