Olympic boxer turned undefeated world champion, Claressa Shields, is putting her 13-0 record on the line this Saturday (June 3rd) in her home state of Michigan. Her challenger this time around will be the 16-5 Maricela Cornejo.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist turned pro in 2016, and only 13-fights in Shields has captured the WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO, and The Ring middleweight titles to become an undisputed champion. Cornejo is getting a major opportunity here, but she wasn’t Claressa’s original opponent. It was supposed to be Hanna Gabriels on the billing, but she pissed hot for a VADA drug test and was pulled from the Shields matchup. The show must go on.
