PFL’s 2023 season is currently in the middle of a pretty huge PED disaster after multiple fighters have been forced out due to failed drug tests.
Two long term UFC fighters among those to fail drug tests
According to MMA Fighting, among those who have tested positive for banned substances are former UFC standouts Thiago Santos and Krzysztof Jotko. Both UFC veterans are lost their promotional debut at PFL 1 last April.
In the same report, Bruno Cappelozza and Rizvan Kuniev also tested positive for banned substances. The pair of heavyweights were coming off wins in April.
All four fighters have since been removed from the on-going 2023 season, but the length of their suspensions, along with the substances they tested positive for were not disclosed.
More PFL drug test failures to be announced?
According to Amy Kaplan of Fan Sided, these drug test scandal is “bigger” and involves more than the four men noted in the initial report.
There’s still no word on what promotion officials intend to do after at least four fighters now ineligible to continue on with their season. UFC vets Santos and Jotko were both scheduled to fight separate opponents at PFL 4 next month.
Santos and Jotko both fought for around nine years with the UFC, with the former being known for his title bout with Jon Jones in 2019. Santos and Jotko both lost their PFL debuts at the same card against Rob Wilkinson and Will Fleury, respectively, and both have also since failed drug tests from the event.
