Fights on Tap is a weekly roundup of all the fights booked in the UFC, Bellator and other promotions. The world’s largest MMA promotion either announced or finalized 21 fights this week, and one of the first pay-per-view events of the summer schedule has undergone a major change as Amanda Nunes has a new opponent for her next defense.
Reigning UFC bantamweight champion Nunes was scheduled to complete a trilogy with Julianna Peña at the upcoming pay-per-view event scheduled for June 10 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. That was until the ‘Venezuelan Vixen’ was forced to withdraw due to a rib injury, leaving the ‘Lioness’ without an opponent.
Dana White & Co. sought a replacement and opted to remove Irene Aldana from her newly scheduled fight against Raquel Pennington for the opportunity. In her past two appearances, the Mexican fighter has finished Yana Kunitskaya and Macy Chiasson at UFC 264 and UFC 279, respectively.
