ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes 3 is blasting off this Friday (May 5th) from the 1stBank Center in in Broomfield, Colorado in what will be the promotion’s inaugural show in United States. Capping off this event is a flyweight trilogy title fight between the champion, Demetrious Johnson, and the man he took the belt from, Adriano Moraes. The series is tied 1-1, with Moraes taking the first match with a second round knockout, and Johnson getting his revenge in their second encounter with a fourth round KO.
Before we get to this weekend’s festivities, though, let’s go back and take a look at the first fight between these two warriors. The date was April 7, 2021 and the event was ONE on TNT 1. Moraes was the defending champion, who was taking on the flyweight G.O.A.T. that earned his way to a title shot with a trio of wins.
The match started and Johnson was the aggressor, with Moraes spending the first-half of the opening round on his bike. Moraes caught a kick and went for a takedown, and although Johnson scrambled into top position, Adriano jumped into a 50/50 guard to ultimately sweep. Moraes spent the remaining 1:53 on top of Demetrious.
The second stanza opened up with Johnson pushing the pace again, backing up Moraes with a variety of punches. Then, as ‘Mighty Mouse’ shot in for a takedown, Adriano dropped him with a well-timed rear uppercut. From there Moraes followed his dazed opponent to the ground, and then proceeded to blast Johnson with a gorgeous knee to the face. Demetrious was done for, and the followup ground and pound made it official.
