Jorge Masvidal’s father arrested

Following yesterday’s report that a member of former fighter Jorge Masvidal’s family was arrested following a shooting at his Miami home, local news confirmed the alleged shooter is his father, Jorge Masvidal Sr. According to a report from WPLG Local 10, the 67-year-old was booked on second degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Masvidal Sr. is suspected of shooting a man in both arms during a verbal argument Thursday while his son was out of the house. The man now identified as Masvidal Sr. was arrested, and reportedly gave a statement to detectives.

New details have emerged

According to an affidavit obtained by TMZ, Masvidal Sr. was arguing with a man named Luis Leoncini at the time. Leoncini later identified himself as the victim in a statement to police.

Following a search of the home, police reported that a loaded .38 caliber pistol was found in the kitchen cabinet. Masvidal Sr. is currently held on a $10,000 bail.

Masvidal has yet to comment on the shooting or investigation. He retired from MMA in April, following a decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287.

Masvidal is expected to be in Sunrise, Fl tonight to attend Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA: Nelson vs. Cleckler. That show is promoted by Masvidals’ Gamebred Promotions company.
