Yadong Song shines against Ricky Simón
Performance of the Night: Yadong Song returned to the win column with a fifth-round finish of Ricky Simón. The ‘Kung Fu Kid’ styled on Simón, stuffing his takedowns attempts and stinging him with some heavy punches. The heaviest came near the end of the fight, as Song floored Simón with a left hand. The Team Alpha Male product followed up with some ground-and-pound until referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the fight. For his next appearance, Song wants either Sean O’Malley or Marlon Vera (again).
Performance of the Night: Caio Borralho got his first UFC finish against Michał Oleksiejczuk. In the second round of their fight, the Contender Series alum wrapped Oleksiejczuk up in a rear-naked choke, and that was it. The Contender Series alum went straight to one of the cameras in the UFC APEX and demanded we ‘put some respect on his f—king name’. After that performance, you got it, Borralho.
Performance of the Night: Rodolfo Vieira snapped a two-fight losing streak with a second-round submission of Cody Brundage. After facing some adversity and (almost!) getting finished early, the ‘Black Belt Hunter’ survived and went into his world. Once on the canvas, Vieira secured an arm-triangle that forced Brundage to tap.
Performance of the Night: Marcus McGhee accepted a fight against Journey Newson on three days’ notice — and shined! Though the ‘Maniac’ has finished all of his previous fights on the feet, he followed the UFC veteran to the ground (after a straight left hand sent him to the canvas) and secured the rear-naked choke. That is the third consecutive win for McGhee, who should have some more eyes on him in his next UFC appearance.
