BKFC 41: Christine Ferea ducks a punch from Bec Rawlings IMAGO / ZUMA Wire

BKFC 41 in Denver, Colorado saw women’s featherweight champ Christine Ferea retain her belt via doctor’s stoppage TKO over Bec Rawlings at the end of round two. One of the most anticipated fights on a stacked BKFC 41 card other than the headliner between Mike Perry and Luke Rockhold and Ben Rothwell’s bout, this fight delivered and yet still managed to frustrate.

BKFC 41 announcers say “and still champion!”

BKFC 41 has been one of the most heavily promoted events in the promotions history and Christine Ferea didn’t get a lot of attention in the build up which was dominated by Mike Perry and Luke Rockhold battling with blab. It almost seemed like she came out intending to prove a point and Bec Rawlings’ face was her white board, her fists and Bec’s blood the Sharpie markers. Things were looking great from a fan’s perspective.

The stoppage seemed inevitable and yet…

Bec Rawlings showed so much heart no one wanted to see the fight stopped, but by the time the doctor stepped in, it just obviously had to end. Ferea busted up Bec’s face with a relentless jab backed with power combos. Rawlings fired back but consistently ended up on the losing end of exchanges. She was wearing a blood mask very early in the opening round.

At the end of the round the medical man looked Rawlings over closely and many expected a stoppage right then and there. But the good doctor declared the sweet violence could continue for a little longer. Seemingly inspired by the opportunity, Rawlings roared into the second round and landed a right hand or two that clearly stung Ferea.

Then the fight moved into phone booth range and both ladies were ripping with their meanest fastballs as the round ended. For a quick second it looked like the fun might continue until resolved in a most satisfying matter but then Dr. No stepped up for a closer look at the giant gash on Rawlings’ face. That was that and a great fight ended all too soon.
