The UFC has lost one of its headliners—again. UFC Vegas 72 got hit with major change after Arman Tsarukyan vs. Renato Moicano was canceled after the latter withdrew due to an injury. A replacement for a headliner was found in Song Yadong vs. Ricky Simón, and all was well. That is, up until the latest breaking news that the June 3rd Fight Night card has lost its headliner fight as well.
Jack Hermansson vs. Brendan Allen canceled
Alex Behunin of MMA Mania reported that Hermansson was out of his five-round fight against Allen due to injury. The UFC middleweight has yet to respond to the report, so there is no word on when he expects to return.
In his most recent Octagon appearance, the ‘Joker’ suffered a second-round (T)KO loss to Roman Dolidze in Orlando this past December. He has alternated wins and losses in his past eight fights.
Brendan Allen has an idea for potential opponent
Though the promotion has yet to start its search for a replacement, Brendan Allen has offered a name for his preferred opponent.
“So [Sean Strickland] what do [you] say my man,” tweeted Allen. “It sets us up for a perfect rematch, better build up and definitely a way better main event for the fans. We can do it on your date of July 1 if you prefer, fans definitely [want to] see us fight over UFC 1-0 guy.”
The ‘UFC 1-0 guy’ Allen mentioned is Abusupiyan Magomedov, who fights Strickland in the UFC Vegas 76 headliner.
In terms of competition, ‘All In’ is on a four-fight win streak. Following a second-round (T)KO loss to Chris Curtis back in 2021, Allen rattled off four consecutive wins against Sam Alvey, Jacob Malkoun, Krzysztof Jotko and André Muniz.
