Dana White discussed Jon Jones at post-fight presser
At the post-fight press conference White spoke about plans for Jones’ next fight. He confirmed rumours that Jones was lined up to face former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
White further revealed that this bout was being targeted for Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.
“As far as I know everything is good and hopefully we have a fight with him and Stipe very soon,” said White.
Jon Jones had teased he was fighting in New York
Yesterday night Jon Jones had teased who and where he would be fighting next.
White did not address whether the proposed fight with Miocic was expected to be Jones’ last bout.
Was Stipe Miocic the greatest heavyweight of all time?
Stipe Miocic received countless plaudits during his run as UFC heavyweight champion between 2016 and 2018 (and then again from 2019 to 2020).
He won the title in 2016 with a win over Fabricio Werdum, in Curitiba, Brazil, by first round KO. He then defended the belt versus Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos and Francis Ngannou.
He lost the title to Daniel Cormier in 2018. He took the belt back with a win over Cormier a year later. He then defended the belt against Cormier the year after that.
In 2021 he was defeated by Ngannou.
Miocic holds the record for most consecutive UFC heavyweight defences (three) and overall UFC heavyweight title defences (four). He also holds the record for most post-fight bonuses in the UFC heavyweight division (nine) and is tied with Randy Couture for most wins in UFC heavyweight title fights (six).
