UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill says he would get an easy win against Alex Pereira if they ever fought.
Jamahal Hill warns Alex Pereira
Hill vs. Pereira was teased (again) after ’Sweet Dreams’ defeated Glover Teixeira — a friend and mentor of Pereira — at UFC 283 in January. ‘Po Atan’ offered to move up from middleweight to light heavyweight for Hill, who previously warned him of the potential consequences he could face in a fight.
“They tell me he might come up [to light heavyweight],” said Hill in an interview with James Lynch of Middle Easy. “Come on in my boy! Whenever he decides. Oh yeah, I can go up there and f—k him up. Come on in my boy, all that smoke. I was there [in New York], I watched [UFC 281] live. All respect to Izzy but I’ll knock Pereira the f—k out.”
Despite the warning, Pereira has not shied away from Hill and will pursue a fight with him in the near future. And if he does, then the Contender Series alum is ready for him.
“Come on in,” said Hill in an interview with Andrew Capucetti of Inside Fighting. “I’m here for everybody. Just put a dish on the plate so I could eat.
“[It would be a] dominant victory for me — dominant,” continued Hill. “I don’t care what nobody [says] — dominant. I would dominate him.”
When does Alex Pereira plan to move up?
Ahead of his immediate rematch with Israel Adesanya at UFC 287 on Saturday, Pereira discussed when a switch in weight class could happen.
“People say that I’m big, that I’m too heavy for the division, but in kickboxing, I fought one kilo, [I cut] two more pounds than I do now,” said Pereira at his media day on Wednesday. “Right now, I’m focused on making history and reigning as a champion in this division. Later down the road, my body will tell me when it’s time to move up.”
Jamahal Hill discusses expected Octagon return
For his first defense, Hill is expected to face the former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiří Procházka. ‘Denisa’ remains sidelined with a shoulder injury he suffered ahead of a rematch with Glover Teixeira scheduled for UFC 282 this past December.
Procházka says he hopes to return to the Octagon in the summer, which lines up perfectly with the timeline Hill wants.
“I’m doing what I can to make it happen,” said Hill. “I’m hearing that he should be back sooner than normal — hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just waiting to see.”
