The UFC 280 PPV main card goes live at 2 p.m. ET from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The main and co-main events see UFC gold on the line. The main event features Charles Oliveira taking on Islam Makhachev for the vacant UFC lightweight title he lost on the scales and the co-main sees Aljamain Sterling defend his UFC bantamweight title against T.J. Dillashaw. However, the fight before them has major title implications in the bantamweight division.

Former UFC bantamweight champion, Petr Yan is set to test the ever-popular Sean O’Malley for a chance to get right back into a UFC title fight. If O’Malley wins, though, we may see ‘Suga’ fighting a belt in the near future.

Sean O’Malley def. Petr Yan by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29): Bantamweight

Yan pressed forward right away, attacking the legs and backing up O’Malley. Yan was definitely being the aggressor, but O’Malley was sneaking in some stiff straight counters. Then, Yan shot in and lifted up O’Malley for a slamming takedown to get on top, but the fight didn’t stay down there for very long. O’Malley stood back up, but there wasn’t much time left on the clock.

O’Malley opened up the second round by rocking Yan twice in a row with blistering left hands. As O’Malley moved in for the kill, Petr responded with a nasty overhand that stunned Sean. Yan spent some time on top, but O’Malley was able to scramble back to his feet. Yan went back to his wrestling, picking up a double leg to plant O’Malley on his back. O’Malley did not return to his feet.

Things heated up again in the third when O’Malley rocked Yan again. He peppered the former champ with a nasty knee on the inside. Petr responded with a haymaker of his own, followed by a head kick from O’Malley. The kick caused Yan to instantly shoot a takedown, but O’Malley did a great job of getting back up. The match ended with Yan snagging another takedown to finish up the round on top.
