Derek Brunson doesn’t believe Darren Till’s coach when he says ‘The Gorilla’ entered their middleweight contest at UFC Vegas 36 with ‘a completely torn ACL’ in his right knee.
Brunson, who beat Till in a lopsided submission victory, labelled his opponent the ‘pull-out king’ and says the Liverpudlian would have pulled out of the fight if he had suffered such an injury.
“Listen, I don’t care about none of that,” Brunson told Ariel Helwani in a recent interview (h/t SportsKeeda). “Till is the pull-out king. If he was that injured, he would have pulled out. Till was doing hang cleans and squats and deadlifts like two weeks ago. He didn’t tear his ACL. And he never said that; that’s what his coach said. I saw him at the UFC Institute, man. He was doing box jumps, hang cleans, squats, all of that.”
Till, 28, has neither confirmed nor denied the injury. The former UFC welterweight title challenger is reportedly spending some time in Las Vegas to work on his wrestling and takedown defence, according to UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping who still believes Till has what it takes to become champion.
Brunson, 37, beat Till to extend his winning streak to five fights and keep his top-five middleweight ranking. He is scheduled to take on No. 3-ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier at UFC 270 on January 22, 2022.
