A multi-division boxing champion and pound-for-pound great has signed a promotional deal with Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).
Amanda Serrano — the current WBC, WBO and IBO female featherweight champion — has been signed to MVP, which is the newly formed promotion company by the aforementioned Paul and his advisor Nakisa Bidarian. She has become the first fighter to sign with with MVP. Serrano and Paul announced the deal on Thursday via their respective social media accounts.
“The GWOAT Amanda Serrano officially signed as the first MVP athlete,” wrote Paul on Instagram. “Amanda is the No. 1 pound-for-pound female fighter in the world and the greatest Hispanic female athlete of all time. Amanda hasn’t had someone with a big platform really put her on. She’s so marketable and a natural born superstar.
“There’s a new era of boxing and there’s a new way about promoting these fights and there’s a new way to become a big fighter and that’s what we specialize in at Most Valuable Promotions,” continued Paul. “Amanda already has the skills, and now we’re going to add our secret sauce into the equation.”
The boxing duo met and previously competed on a card together nearly two years ago. On that night, Serrano stopped Simone Aparecida da Silva inside of three rounds and Paul earned a first-round technical knockout against a fellow YouTuber-turned-boxer known as AnEsonGib in what was his professional debut. Serrano and Paul stayed in touch, and would compete on another card together this past August.
Serrano recently fought in the co-main event of Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley, where she defeated Yamileth Mercado and retained her featherweight titles. The win over Mercado saw the 32-year-old extend her win streak to 27 straight, with 21 of those coming by way of knockout. Serrano has also found success in mixed martial arts, where she holds a record of 2-0-1 that includes two first-round standing submission wins over Erendira Ordonez and Valentina Garcia respectively.
Serrano and her new promoter already have their sights set on securing a blockbuster fight against Katie Taylor, who was connected to the Puerto Rican superstar last year before the coronavirus pandemic upended the long-awaited matchup. Bidarian spoke with Marc Raimondi of ESPN and revealed that “talks are ongoing” with Eddie Hearn — the promoter of Taylor — and they would like to have the fight between Serrano and Taylor happen sometime in 2022.
