The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum plans to move back down to welterweight with the aid of a new dietician, the 29-year-old revealed in a recent interview with The Schmo (h/t Low Kick MMA).

Nothing is definite as of yet but if things go smoothly Gastelum plans to return to the octagon reinvigorated as a welterweight by early next year.

“I’m thinking about. Maybe, possibly, hiring a dietitian [to help him] make the move down (to welterweight) but it’ll take some time,” the No. 10-ranked middleweight said on Thursday. “If I do this, I’ll be fighting next year which is most likely the case.”

Gastelum formerly competed at welterweight from 2013 to 2016 but had recurring issues with his weight and frequently hit the scales heavy. He moved up to middleweight in 2016 but has struggled to string together more than two wins in a row.

Gastelum’s last fight at 185-pounds saw him drop a unanimous decision to top-three middleweight Jared Cannonier in the UFC on ESPN 29 main event. The one-time interim middleweight title challenger holds notable victories over Michael Bisping, Jacare Souza, and Tim Kennedy.
