T.J. Dillashaw has shared a video of the knee surgery he received following his split decision win over Cory Sandhagen at UFC Vegas 32 earlier this year.
Dillashaw returned to competition after the completion of a two-year suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and was welcomed back by a bantamweight contender in Sandhagen. The fight proved to be a tough outing for Dillashaw, who was immediately forced to fight through adversity after a scramble on the ground punctuated by a heel hook attempt resulted in his left knee popping near the end of the first round. That pop turned out to be multiple tears, which the former two-time bantamweight champion needed surgery for to repair.

“Surgery 7 weeks ago,” wrote Dillashaw alongside the video. “Went to the best to fix my knee, thank you [Orthopedic surgeon Steve Mora] for putting me back together better than ever. Showing this video so you can understand what I was fighting through for 4 rounds.”
The surgery sounded fairly extensive, but Dillashaw has previously stated that a ‘very speedy recovery’ was expected. The No. 2 ranked contender would like to get back to the octagon as soon as possible to challenge the winner of the upcoming bantamweight championship rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan at UFC 267 (which is the first numbered card in eons that is actually NOT a pay-per-view) in October. He already has a prospective title defense in mind, too, as he expressed mutual interest in fighting a fellow former champion in José Aldo.
