Depending on how much Conor McGregor had to drink at this year’s VMAs, ‘The Notorious’ might have mistaken rapper Machine Gun Kelly for YouTuber Jake Paul.
That’s according to 24-year-old Paul who, in an interview with ESPN, called McGregor an ‘idiot’ for getting into a scuffle with Kelly last week.
“Some people are saying that Conor McGregor mistook him for me because we look the same, like blonde hair, little bit tall,” Paul said.
“That was like the rumour that happened, I think it’s hilarious. Conor McGregor is a real fighter, why is he on a celebrity red carpet throwing drinks at Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly? It’s just disrespectful.
“But Kells handled himself like a professional, he didn’t get hot, he didn’t retaliate because I think he knows that Conor just looked like an idiot. This guy is falling apart and trying to find any reason to get attention.” (Transcribed by Talk Sport)
It’s unknown what, exactly, triggered the altercation but McGregor says there’s ‘no beef’ with MGK and that it’s ‘all love’. UFC Hall of Famer turned commentator and podcast host Michael Bisping suspects McGregor’s pain medication was to blame, claiming the Irishman is ‘out of his mind’ on pills.
Paul is fresh off a decision victory over Tyron Woodley, while McGregor is recovering from injury. The former dual-division champion suffered a broken leg in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, which he lost via first-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage).
