Same old story, different day and flashy suit. UFC superstar Conor McGregor continues to live up to his “Notorious” nickname, this time by causing a stir at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City on Sunday night.

McGregor got into it with rapper Machine Gun Kelly on the red carpet, amidst the watchful eye of event photographers. The real cause of the squabble has yet to be identified, but close sources to TMZ claimed that it all began after McGregor asked Kelly for a photo, which the latter denied.

TMZ adds that the situation quickly escalated when Kelly pushed McGregor, who apparently “stumbled back and spilled his drink.”

Another anonymous source told Page Six that McGregor threw a drink at Kelly, which ignited the tussle. The two briefly calmed down, but the Irishman allegedly “went for him again.”

“[McGregor] was ready to throw fists,” another source said. “Security was having trouble holding him back.”

A representative for McGregor denied the incident to Page Six, saying “Conor only fights fighters.” McGregor later gave a similar statement to Entertainment Tonight.

Absolutely nothing. I don’t know I just… showed up. I don’t even know the guy, to be honest with you. Just rumors… Nothing happened with me, I only fight real fighters. People that actually fight.

I certainly don’t fight little Vanilla Ice white rappers. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.

Just two months ago, McGregor was in crutches after suffering a broken leg at the hands of Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He is expected to see action again sometime in 2022.
