Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort is more than glad to be taking on a legend such as Evander Holyfield in his return to professional boxing with Triller Fight Club’s PPV event this weekend. Originally scheduled to take on Oscar de La Hoya, the ‘Phenom’ had a sudden opponent change when the ‘Golden Boy’ needed to leave the card due to Covid-19, but the Brazilian did not go for too long without an opponent.
Now paired up against Holyfield, Belfort calls the fight an even better pairing than the original, which makes him excited for the challenge. Although Evander is legendary heavyweight boxing champion, Vitor is confident he can do what it takes to secure the win on Saturday night.
“Frustration is a juice without vitamins for the soul. I see this as an opportunity and that’s how it happened,” Belfort told Ag Fight. “I’m very happy with my upgrade to first class. It’s going to be epic and I’ll soon convince boxers to accept the Boxing Martial Arts rules.”
“I’m like water,” Vitor continued. “If it gets cold, I’ll turn into ice. If it gets hot, I’ll turn into steam, but the element remains there, always ready to find a way (to win). My opponents may be different, but I’m the same. Aggressive, with the gentleness of an artist. Like a lightning bolt, I make no sound. I bring the energy necessary to accomplish the much desired task.”
In his MMA career, Belfort (26-14) lost his last bout to Lyoto Machida, via knockout, back in May 2018. The 44-year-old’s most recent win came just before that, in June 2017, when he scored a unanimous decision over Nate Marquardt. In professional boxing, Vitor scored a knockout win in 2006, against Josemario Neves.
Now, Belfort is expected to take on Holyfield in Hollywood, Florida, on September 11 at the Triller card. On the same night, former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz are also scheduled to square off in the co-main event.
