Colby Covington is currently preparing to face Kamaru Usman at UFC 268 on November 6. This will be the second time Covington has challenged Usman for the welterweight title. The first time that happened, at UFC 245 in 2019, Covington left the cage with a TKO loss and a broken jaw.

Recently Covington has expressed his belief that he will defeat ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ and then jump up in weight to beat Israel Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title.

One person who thinks this scenario is outside the realms of possibility is former UFC middleweight champ, and UFC Hall of Famer, Michael Bisping.

He gave a brutal assessment of Covington’s aspirations during a recent episode of his Believe You Me podcast.

“Colby Covington, what’s he talking about?” said ‘The Count’ (ht bjpenn). “What do you think he’s talking about? He’s talking about becoming champ-champ. He’s talking about beating Kamaru Usman and then he’s talking about going up and fighting Israel Adesanya and becoming a champ-champ.”

“I get it, you’re selling tickets,” continued Bisping, “You’re selling wolf tickets as the Diaz brothers would say, but still to beat Kamaru Usman and to go up and fight Adesanya and beat him as well? What reality are we living in here, buddy?”

This isn’t the first time Bisping has had some harsh words for Covington. Back in 2018, after Covington had beaten Rafael dos Anjos for the interim UFC welterweight title, Bisping asked the American on the post-fight show “why are you gotta be prick?”

That lead to the pair sniping each other with insults throughout the segment.

Covington’s last fight was a TKO win over Tyron Woodley in 2020. That win came after his loss to Usman a year prior. Before falling to Usman, Covington was on a seven fight win streak with victories over Robbie Lawler, dos Anjos and Demian Maia.
