Karate Combat, the full contact karate league, is now in its third season. Georges St. Pierre, now wholly committed to his new career in front of the camera, has taken on the role of “Season Sensei” for the competing fighters.
Danny Trejo has been a part of Karate Combat from the beginning, acting as a ring announcer back in 2019 at the fledgling promotion’s Hollywood event.
The two joined forces to promote Karate Combat with a video from Men’s Health, wherein the UFC legend gives Danny Trejo a karate lesson at the behest of Bas Rutten.
Joke promos aside, Danny Trejo looks pretty sharp for a 77 year-old man. Trejo famously entered Hollywood thanks to his boxing skills. After winning the lightweight and welterweight titles in San Quentin, he wound up getting into a 12 step program that changed his life. While in prison he met a screenwriter who got a cleaned-up Trejo a job training Eric Roberts in boxing for a movie. When the director saw Trejo training Roberts he cast Trejo as the opponent in the film. And the rest, as they say, is history.
After much talk of Georges St-Pierre leaving retirement to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, the two weight UFC Champion has decided to stay retired and pursue his career in front of the camera. Earlier this year he reprised his role as Batroc the Leaper on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
In GSP’s latest role, as the “Season Sensei” for Karate Combat, the MMA fighter gets back to his karate roots. A black belt in Kyokushin Karate by the age of 12, St. Pierre famously honored his foundation in the martial arts by wearing a gi, headband, and his black belt in his walk outs to the Octagon.
