The last time we saw Jorge Masvidal it was in the main event of UFC 261 on April 24. That night he challenged Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title. It didn’t go well for Gamebred. He was knocked out, in what may be one of the KOs of the Year, in the second round.
That was Masvidal’s second loss to Usman. He lost a unanimous decision to the champ when he came in on short notice at UFC 251 last July.
Since those losses Masvidal’s camp has been searching for the fight that will get the ‘BMF’ back into the title picture. There have been rumblings over fights with Leon Edwards, Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington and even Nick Diaz.
One name that has not been mentioned by Masvidal is Conor McGregor. Masvidal’s manager Malki Kawa recently took to Twitter to explain why fans shouldn’t hope for a match-up between ‘Notorious’ and his client any time soon.
Guys, stop this. Masvidal is too big for him, that’s why @danawhite never liked this fight. https://t.co/NbEBODng7a

“Guys, stop this,” wrote Kawa to a fan who was asking for a Masvidal vs. McGregor fight. “Masvidal is too big for him, that’s why Dana White never liked this fight.”
UFC President White blocking a fight between McGregor and Masvidal comes as news to many. The size excuse is a curious one, McGregor has fought at welterweight before and the pair have shared opponents in Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone.
Masvidal is two inches taller than McGregor, but they both have the same reach.
Regardless McGregor is not expected to feature in the Octagon until at least a year from now. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is currently healing from a broken leg suffered in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. That loss gave McGregor a losing record over the seven fights that have occurred since he won the featherweight title against Jose Aldo back in 2015.
Before Masvidal’s losses to Usman, he was riding a three fight winning streak with KOs over Darren TIll and Ben Askren and a TKO (cut) versus Diaz.
