“I just want to say congratulations and welcome back,” Jones said. Emelianenko responded, “Thank you, my brother.”
Emelianenko will return to the Bellator cage on Oct. 23 following a two-year hiatus from the sport. The 44-year-old last fought at Bellator 237, in 2019, when he knocked out former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in the second round. His comeback fight will take place in Moscow, Russia at the VTB Arena against a TBA opponent. This will be the first time Bellator has hosted an event in Russia and the first time Emelianenko has fought in his homeland in over five years.
As for Jones, the 33-year-old is still on the sidelines but has promised to return to the UFC when he’s ‘good and ready’. He is expected to make his heavyweight debut sometime later this year.
