Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno had to be disheartened when they heard the result of their December 2020 bout. After 25 minutes, the flyweight title fight, which headlined UFC 256, ended as a majority draw. With that, the champs run of four straight finishes and five consecutive wins ended. Moreno added a second draw to a run of four wins and one draw. The two run things back in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC 263.
Figueiredo faced Moreno on 21 days’ notice in their first bout. The two had enough time for a full camp heading into the rematch.
The 125-pound champion expects to get back to finishing fights on Saturday.
“I had three months to prepare for Moreno, which is something I didn’t have in the first fight,” Figueiredo said. “I only got 20 days. You can be sure that I’m going to be 100% and that this guy will last less than two rounds with me. I’m very confident, I trust my work and my team. I’m ready to fight him. His boxing is sharp, Mexicans like to box. I’m good at jiu-jitsu, I’m a blackbelt. But I’m also a striker. I’m more well-rounded than he is. No matter where the fight goes, you better believe it I’ll be ready for the rematch.”
As for Moreno, he’s eager to get into the cage and make a statement that won’t require a trilogy fight.
“In this kind of situation, the people maybe are waiting for a trilogy?” Moreno said. “But I need to finish this rivalry with this guy. I need to finish this guy. I want to be a champion. I’m working so hard. I’m young, I’m 27 years old, but I have 10 years like a professional, I have 15 years in this sport working so hard, I just dream all night of the belt around my waist. I just need to finish this guy.”
UFC 263 takes place on June 12 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The main card streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+ and early prelims on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass.
