The UFC 262 main event was the setting where a new undisputed lightweight champion was crowned. Longtime UFC veteran, Charles Oliveira, overcame being badly hurt in the opening round to drop and finish Michael Chandler in the second act to capture the vacant 155-pound strap. Oliveira debuted with the promotion way back in 2010, and finally reached the mountain top, achieving the most finishes in UFC history at 17 along the way. This was a crazy fight to say the least, and “Do Bronx” had to show off his heart of a champion to get himself that belt.

Oliveira dropped Chandler with the first calf kick he threw. Chandler responded with some big hooks that prompted Oliveira to shoot in. Chandler exposed his back and Oliveira took full advantage. At this point, a cut formed around the right eye of Charles, but it didn’t seem to be affecting his vision. Chandler exploded into top position and dropped a couple of ground strikes. The fight returned to its feet and Chandler started to bomb on Oliveira with more hefty hooks. Oliveira buckled and fell to the floor, and Chandler was content to follow him there. More damaging ground strikes landed for there former Bellator champ before the round ended.

Oliveira started quickly in the second round, dropping Chandler with a left hook. Chandler tried to get up and escape into open space, but Oliveira was in pursuit. Chandler was blasted with several more punches, with another left hook knocking him to the floor for the second time. A barrage of ground strikes came flying in and Chandler was done!
