Sean O’Malley is looking for a fight in July and wants to meet a former champion in the Octagon.

Earlier this week, O’Malley uploaded a short video to his YouTube channel that saw him call out two-time UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Although the video was centred around Cruz, the bantamweight contender made sure not to leave out the rest of his peers in the division and mentioned names of potential opponents like Cory Sandhagen, T.J. Dillashaw and Petr Yan as well.

A fight against Cruz may be what O’Malley was initially angling for, but ‘Suga’ has now turned his attention to one of those other names. On Tuesday evening, O’Malley took to Twitter to call out the aforementioned Yan for a fight.

“Hey [Petr Yan] what are you doing in July brotha?,” asked O’Malley. “Wanna beat me up while you wait for your rematch?”

Yan recently lost the bantamweight championship to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259 in March after being disqualified for throwing an illegal knee to the head of his opponent. An immediate rematch between Yan and Sterling appeared to be the next move to make, considering the controversial ending of the first fight, but in light of recent news, it may have to wait a bit.

Sterling announced that he would be undergoing surgery to correct a lingering issue in his neck that has been a painful problem for the better part of his collegiate and professional career. Word went around that Sterling would be out nine months, which would effectively keep him away from competition for the remainder of the year. Sterling denied these rumors, but Yan did not want to accept that the champion will be away for that long.

Yan expressed his frustration in having to wait for his rematch with Sterling, but that did not mean he was going to take another fight in the meantime. In response to O’Malley and his proposal on social media, Yan kept his rejection short and sweet.

“Are you high again Shaun?,” Yan retorted.

O’Malley still has plenty of options for his next fight, but there is currently no word on when he makes his return to the cage. He most recently returned to the win column with an emphatic third-round knockout over Thomas Almeida at UFC 260.
