It wasn’t a great night for former UFC fighters at ONE on TNT, as Demetrious Johnson suffered the first stoppage loss of his career and Eddie Alvarez was disqualified in under a minute.
Adriano Moraes defended his ONE flyweight title by stopping Johnson in the second round. Moraes started the fight well using his size and reach advantage to land strikes at distance. ‘Mikinho’ landed a takedown after catching one of Johnson’s kicks, but ‘DJ’ did a good job of reversing the position to end up on top.
In the second round, Moraes continued to strike at range. After just missing the chin of Johnson with a flying knee, Moraes landed an uppercut that dropped ‘DJ’. Whilst attempting to get back to his feet, Johnson was hit with a knee (which is legal to throw to the head of a grounded opponent in ONE) that sent him back down and the fight was rightfully stopped.
Meanwhile in the co-main event, Alvarez was disqualified against Iuri Lapicus for illegal strikes to the back of the head.
Alvarez started the fight well by securing an early takedown. Whilst on top of Laipcus against the cage, Alvarez was landing some punches and the referee complained about a shot to the back of Lapicus’ head. After a few more shots, Lapicus fell back and the referee disqualified Alvarez for the strikes by showing him a red card.
Elsewhere on the card, viral sensation and Senegalese wrestler Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane picked up the third win of his career by stopping Patrick Schmid.
