After taking out a former champion in the first round at UFC 260, Vicente Luque decided to aim high. In his post-fight interview, which followed a submission victory over Tyron Woodley, the ‘Silent Assassin’ took advantage of the spotlight to call out a rather profitable, albeit difficult, contender in Nate Diaz.

In an interview with Ag Fight, Luque says that Diaz would benefit from fighting him, as well, since Vicente believes he has the kind of fighting style that pleases Nate. Furthermore, with a win over Woodley under his belt, the Brazilian believes he is now recognizable enough to get a yes from the Stockton brawler.

“This is the time. I think I’ve shown the division that I’m a well-rounded MMA fighter. I’m able to face the top 5 guys, that’s where I’m aiming. I want someone in the top 5. The only exception I’m making is Nate Diaz. He’s retired, sooner or later he’ll start taking about coming back.”

“I think I’m an excellent opponent, because of my style.” Luque continued. “I think I’m known enough to fight a guy like Nate Diaz today. We’ll see if he’s interested. I’ve called him out in the past, he didn’t even answer, he never said a word. He says he likes brawlers. I’m that guy. We’ll see if he really wants that fight.”

With the win over Woodley, Luque (20-7) scored his third straight victory, after finishing both Randy Brown and Niko Price before UFC 260. The 29-year-old’s last defeat happened in November 2019, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Stephen Thompson.
