Dillian Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) knocked down Alexander Povetkin (36-3-1, 25 KOs) twice in round four of their first matchup. As everyone who watched the fight remembers, Whyte was rendered unconscious in a stunning comeback in the next round.

In Saturday’s rematch in Gibraltar, Whyte made sure it never got to a fifth round.

Whyte pretty much did as he pleased against the 41-year-old Russian, whom it should be noted was heavily affected by COVID-19. Povetkin’s legs looked incredibly weak such that he was unsteady in the opening minute without even anything resembling a clean shot landing. He arguably looked tired just walking into the ring. Still he hung in there and was willing to trade rather sloppy bombs. While Povetkin landed a couple of shots here and there, Whyte flicked out his jab and his punches had far greater impact.

A big right hand stunned Povetkin in round four and had him wobbling. Whyte pursued the finish and dropped Povetkin with a left hook. The referee stopped the fight even though Povetkin beat the count, and ultimately even if the ref let it continue the corner threw in the towel.

Watch the highlights below.

Fair to say that Povetkin did not look right and his health problems during this pandemic certainly cannot be ruled out. Add in his age and the wear and tear and he clearly is well past it. But for Whyte, he gets his revenge and remains in that second-tier of top heavyweights.
