In January Dustin Poirier got his revenge over Conor McGregor. At UFC 257, atop of Fight Island, ‘Diamond’ handed McGregor the first TKO loss of the Irishman’s career. The stoppage was payback for the TKO loss Poirier suffered to ‘The Notorious’ back in 2014.

Since that night there has been a lot of explanations from McGregor and his camp over why the fight panned out the way it did. McGregor’s time off, his conditioning and gameplan have all been labelled as likely culprits.

However, in a recent interview with BT Sport, UFC President Dana White shared what he thinks went wrong for McGregor.

“I think Conor was overlooking Dustin,” claimed White (ht MMA Mania). “[He was] like ‘let me just get through this and onto other things.’”

White also said that whatever was going on with McGregor ahead of Poirier vs. McGregor 2, it’s not something he expects to be repeated for Poirier vs. McGregor 3—rumoured to be taking place later this year.

“There’s nothing more exciting or more fun than a motivated Conor McGregor when his head is in the right place. You can tell when he is, and you can tell when he isn’t. Right now, you can tell he’s in. … If something happens to Dustin Poirier, he is the Conor McGregor right now that does not give a (expletive) who we put in that fight on that night. He’s that guy right now.”
