A women’s flyweight fight has been added to the UFC’s Fight Night event on May 8th, as Roxanne Modafferi will take on Talia Santos.
Combate first reported the fight, though the UFC is yet to confirm the booking. The card is currently without a location or venue to its name.
Modafferi (25-18) has already made a UFC appearance in 2021, losing to Viviane Araujo by decision in January. “The Happy Warrior” has gone 4-5 since being signed to the UFC in 2018 and is yet to put together consecutive wins. Modafferi won decisions against Andrea Lee and Maycee Barber in 2020. She memorably challenged for the inaugural women’s flyweight belt on short notice against Nicco Montano, losing by unanimous decision.
Santos (17-1) earned a UFC contract after impressing on the Contender Series in 2018. The Brazilian suffered the first loss of her career to Mara Romero Borella in her promotional debut in 2019. Santos has since rebounded with wins against Molly McCann and Gillian Robertson to break into the top-15 at women’s flyweight.
A fight between Donald Cerrone and Diego Sanchez is one of the featured bouts on the May 8th event.
