A GoFundMe has been set up for Walker Brown, the MMA-trained man caught on video last week beating up OU wide receiver Spencer Jones.
The viral video shows Brown getting into a confrontation with Jones in the restroom of a bar. Sporting a bloody-nose, Walker unleashes a spree of punches on Jones before throwing him to the floor. Another man later revealed to be Walker’s brother, Braden Brown, is also seen fighting Jones’ friend in the video.
Jones has said to have almost lost an eye due to the altercation. Brown on the other hand, states that he sustained “several injuries” and will need surgery for a torn bicep.
The GoFundMe set up by Brown to cover attorney fees and medical bills for his own injuries has already raised over $37,000, as of this writing.
“I have not commented because there is an on-going investigation. I have been advised to get an attorney,” Brown wrote on the fundraiser. “I am also facing a surgery from an injury I received while defending myself and will be looking at some unplanned medical bills and time off of work recovering from the surgery. I am a full-time student who works two jobs.
“…I feel awkward doing this because I want to work and pay my own bills, but I am realizing that may be difficult for a little bit. I will say that YES, there was something that occurred prior to the start of the video as my nose doesn’t bleed for no reason. After I hire an attorney, I will make a statement so you will know my side of the story.”
Brown’s attorney, Steve Stice, says that his client was “legally justified in defending himself”. Stice also claims the video does not show Jones and his friend’s “original assault and battery” before the captured footage.
