After a very successful stint on Fight Island, the UFC is back in Vegas for its latest offering out of their APEX facility: UFC VEGAS 18. Headlining Saturday’s show is a clash of top ten heavyweights as Alistair Overeem takes on Alexander Volkov.
Also on the card bantamweights Frankie Edgar and Cory Sandhagen meet in a fight that will have major title implications at 135 lbs. Champion Petr Yan will take on Aljimain Sterling for his first defence, but an impressive showing from Sandhagen will likely mean ‘The Sandman’ is up next.
Also on the main card is a meeting of veteran lightweights Michael Johnson and Clay Guida and the long awaited debut of flyweight RIZIN stand-out Manel Kape, who takes on Alexandre Pantoja.
Before any of this happens the fighters have to make weight, which is never a given in the COVID-19 era of fighting. That being said, there isn’t much chance the headliners miss weight; Overeem will probably step on the scales wearing jeans. But the rest of the card might require shuffling if COVID-19 tests and weight cuts go awry.
