During his post-UFC 257 scrum, UFC president Dana White brought up the possibility of Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler fighting for the undisputed lightweight title. Chandler expectedly fancies the idea, but “The Diamond” doesn’t see the logic in it at the moment.

“No, it does not (make sense),” Poirier told reporters during his post-fight scrum. “Respect to Chandler, great win, but to come in and beat a guy I just beat and get a title shot?

“I’ve been in 27, 28 fights in the UFC, fighting the toughest of the toughest guys to get my hands on gold.”

Chandler did make a strong first impression in his UFC debut by knocking out a formidable contender in Dan Hooker inside two and a half minutes of action. But if he wants to earn a title shot, Poirier laid out a possible path for him.

“He should fight Charles Oliveira or something. Let Chandler and Charles Oliveira go at it,” he said. “That doesn’t really interest me at this point. I’m going to sell hot sauce if that’s the case.”

Poirier later stated that Oliveira was a more deserving opponent for him “because he’s never had the opportunity.” “Do Bronx” is currently ranked number three at lightweight following his dominant victory over Tony Ferguson in December.
