MMA Junkie reports that legendary Russian heavyweight MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko is currently hospitalized after contracting COVID-19. That report further states that Emelianenko is at a Moscow facility that specializes in treating COVID-19.
Since news of Emelianenko’s hospitalization became public, the former PRIDE star took to Instagram to send a message to his fans (per RT Sport).
Speaking in his native Russian, Emelianenko said “I feel fine. I am going into recovery. I’m grateful to the doctors and medical staff for their care and hard work.”
Emelianenko, who is now 44-years-old, is one of the most popular fighters on the planet. He is also considered one of the greatest fighters to ever compete in MMA. His prime years (2000-2009) featured a run of domination, and destruction, that were unlike anything that had ever been witnessed. Some would argue this period, which included a 28 fight unbeaten run, has yet to be matched in terms of both achievement and entertainment value.
In 2010, against Fabricio Werdum, Emelianenko lost his first fight in ten years. Since then he has gone 8-5 with fights across Strikeforce, M-1, RIZIN and Bellator. Most recently, at Bellator 237 in December 2019, he defeated Quinton Jackson by TKO.
