The UFC FIGHT ISLAND 7 main card is in-progress and we got a couple of cool finishes! Lethal welterweight, Jingliang Li, just brutally knocked out the returning Santiago Ponzinibbio in the first-round. It was a monstrous left hook that knocked Ponzi silly, before one academic ground strike sealed the deal. What a way for “The Leech” to get back in the win column, and he has also won four put of his last five fights.

Before that, Alessio Di Chirico upset Joaquin Buckley with a first-round head kick knockout. Buckley got off to a strong start, but all it took was one well-timed head kick to send him falling to the floor. A couple of academic strikes scored before the referee had a chance to step in. This sweet highlight finish snaps a three-fight losing skid for Alessio Di Chirico.

Opening up the ABC portion of the event, Punahele Soriano kept his flawless record intact by stopping Dusko Todorovic with strikes in the opening round. Soriano hurt his opponent on several occasions with devastating punches before the referee stepped in and waved off the bout. This makes 2-0 for Soriano within the UFC and 8-0 overall in his young career.

Main card:

Jingliang Li def. Santiago Ponzinibbio by KO at 4:25 of round 1: Welterweight

Li was the more active fighter to get things going. He was the one throwing the volume as Ponzinibbio was pressuring but not pulling the trigger. Li was attacking the leg as well as throwing punches to the head. Then KABOOM! Li unleashed a brutal left hook that cleaned Ponzinibbio’s clock.

Alessio Di Chirico def. Joaquin Buckley by KO at 2:12 of round 1: Middleweight

Buckley marched forward right away, launching strikes and backing up Di Chirico. Just when it seemed as if Buckley had found his groove, Di Chirico exploded with a head kick that landed flush. Buckley went down and Di Chirico pounced with fight-ending ground and pound. Eek!

Punahele Soriano def. Dusko Todorovic by TKO at 4:48 of round 1: Middleweight

There wasn’t any feeling out needed here. Both men came out swinging and both men were landing. Todorovic was landing clean at first, but then some heat from Soriano got some respect and slowed down the pace a bit. Then, Soriano floored his foe with a laser cross. Todorovic recovered but was in big trouble. Soriano stayed on him and Todorovic was defending by leaning back instead of covering up. The mouthpiece of Todorovic was knocked out and got lodged underneath the Octagon, causing a delay in the action. When the fight got back underway, Soriano landed another piston that dropped Todorovic. At that point the referee had seen enough and stopped the match.
