The UFC’s final pay-per-view event of the decade on Saturday night ended in absolute fireworks. Elite flyweights Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno fought five hard rounds at UFC 256, proving why it would’ve been a huge mistake to abolish the 125-pound decision as it was supposedly planned three years ago.

But because of a hard low blow that cost Figueiredo a point and a judge’s dissenting tally, the bout ended in a draw. And with many already deeming it a strong candidate for 2020’s Fight of the Year, the UFC’s big boss has promised a part two for 2021.

“We’ve got to give these guys some time off, but you absolutely, positively do that rematch,” company president Dana White said during the UFC 256 post-fight presser. “That’s another fun fight for us all to look forward to in 2021.”

Both the champion and challenger made a quick turnaround from their respective wins at UFC 255 three weeks ago to show up and put on a memorable performance on Saturday night. After what they’ve shown for 25 solid minutes, White is giving them their much-deserved respite before diving right back in.

“These guys just fought twice in three weeks. They’ve got nothing but time. They can take as much time as they need.”

Figueiredo vs. Moreno could very well be a 2020 FOTY candidate alongside Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 in March and Dustin Poirier vs. Dan Hooker in June.
